Original story

Character Image

Eulalie’s character originates from a poem of the same name: Eulalie. The poem is narrated by a man who expresses his love for his wife. The poem was published in 1845, and it is speculated that it may reflect how Poe felt about his wife. The poem describes Eulalie as the light of the narrator’s life. He’s deeply in love with her and shows great care for her. This is reflected in Eulalie’s personality in Nevermore, as she is shown to care deeply about her friends. It’s even implied that she’s willing to resort to violence for them in extreme scenarios. When it comes to her spectre, the influences are through design. For example, the stars on Eulalie’s kimono in her spectre form most likely originate from the poem’s narrator describing Eulalie’s eyes as brighter than the stars at night. Furthermore, the poe,’s narrator also says that she “shines bright and strong, Astarte within the sky” later on. The coloring of Eulalie’s kimono reflects colors and patterns commonly associated with the night sky and space, as it features black, white, and purple as its primary colors. When these colors are combined with the star pattern previously mentioned, the inspiration becomes even more clear.

Designs

School Uniform

Character Image

Eulalie is a pale woman of average height. She has long, dark purple hair that runs to her waist. In her school uniform, Eulalie wears a white turtleneck sweater with frilly ends underneath a black jacket with long, flowy sleeves. She has a white over-the-knee skirt with knee-high white socks underneath a pair of knee-high black boots. Additionally, she wears a wide black belt with a silver buckle around her stomach.

Spectre (Chimera)

Character Image

Eulalie’s spectre wears an outfit with similar qualities to a kimono worn underneath a giant, black, flowy cloak that is decorated with white stars. Her cloak features a hood with giant buttons on either side. Her yukata, worn beneath her black cloak, is white with purple accents. She wears a white obi around her stomach, covered by a purple obijime. Eulalie’s body is covered in dark marks, which are likely either burn scars or marks like a tiger’s.

Her Death

Character Image

While the majority of Eulalie’s outfit at her time of death isn’t shown, the few articles of clothing that can be seen include a white button up dress shirt and a darkly colored sweater or jacket.

Character Traits

Character Image

On the surface, Eulalie seems to be a rather airheaded woman, with her head always being in the clouds. However, she is shown to be very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to macabre and otherworldly topics, such as ghosts and fortune telling. This is shown through the manor arc, the pacting scene, and her flashback in episode 114. She is also very loyal and protective towards her friends. She’s very extroverted and kind, although very blunt as well. She seems to lack social awareness, especially when it comes to picking up on the tones of different people. Her extreme interest in the occult and similar topics as well as the previously mentioned lack of social awareness are both major symptoms of autism, however, Eulalie is not confirmed to have autism nor any other mental handicap.

Character Development

Character Image

Aside from her growing bonds with Lenore, Duke, Pluto, Berenice, and Morella, Eulalie hasn’t had much character development yet.

Introduction

Character Image

Eulalie first appeared in episode 31 of Nevermore, and she is formally introduced in episode 32 by her roommate and friend, Berenice. The two approach Lenore, Pluto, and Duke, with Berenice asking how they were able to complete the maze without their spectres. After being asked why the two of them know that, Eulalie responds bluntly and says they were eavesdropping. While Berenice tries to play her response off as a joke, Eulalie says she was telling the truth, and Berenice pulls her aside. After talking to her privately for a moment, Berenice introduces the two to Lenore, Duke, and Pluto. This marks the beginning of their acquaintanceship with Lenore and her friends, as the two can very frequently be seen following the group from that point onwards.
